Keeping secrets

Does anyone keep things on the "D.L." anymore? I suppose with millions of blogs, facebook, myspace and of course, good old fashioned person to person gossip, the prospect of keeping a secret is far and few between. Keeping information in confidence is the new slow leak. Don't want to sack up and tell someone what really should be said face to face? Well hell, just ask an acquaintance or a "good friend" if they can keep a secret, let fly with the scandalous little tidbit and let things flow from there. Then, it gets to work it's way through the grapevine and by the time the party who should've been told first hand finds out the blow is softened, right? Whatever. I'm not saying that keeping secrets is in the best interest for anyone and human nature seems to insinuate that you're going to explode if you can't tell anyone but let's be honest, you can keep things to yourself and you're not going to die from that. The whole reason you want to let it out is from pure guilt and a friend shouldn't have to bear that for you. Nor should the person that the info is intended for have to stand by unknowing while everyone else in the network disseminates what they heard or interpreted into a whole new story. That's why the insecure people have to tell someone. They can't handle it and want someone else to do the dirty work for them. Sometimes they tell the wrong person and it gets to someone who doesn't mind getting dirty. Hmm. I think maybe I got some "work" to do.
