A summer playlist
I had some time to kill today so I started putting together a playlist of songs that I associate with summer and then things just spiraled out of control. As much as I now profess that winter is my favorite time of year because the passion to ski dominates so powerfully I have to take a step back and reassess that. That damn playlist really got me thinking. How far back do I take it? High school? Sure, why not? From my summer working at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk I got my first taste of punk and it was gooood. I felt like I had to hide it from my parents though because it didn't quite fit in with their Fleetwood Mac and Chicago albums (not knocking those). Operation Ivy, The Dead Kennedys and Suicidal Tendencies and Black Flag make the list. What about college? Of course!! Granted, this covers a period of time that rivals Bluto Blutarsky's but it's a time that was SOAKED in music. Lollapalooza's, HFStivals, Myrtle Beach, OBX, road trips and slack style unemployment all figured into the mix. Oh but it doesn't end there! The list rounds out when thinking of trips to Dewey, concerts with Rach and digging into new bands as locations change. This thing is never going to get done but hopefully I can create enough of a mix to evoke great memories from summer times past.
